Adventures Home Stay
Embark on an eye-opening journey, immerse yourself in local lifestyle and traditions and meet the friendly villagers from the margins of the Great Lake
You will be picked up at your hotel at 2:30pm and travel in A/C car to Kompong Khleang – one of the less visited stilted villages on Tonle Sap, the largest fresh water lake in South-East Asia.
With the warm afternoon light casting long shadows you will have the opportunity to meet the local people, speak with them about their daily routines and observe their activities, an experience truly “off the beaten track”. Later you will board a local wooden boat to catch the sunset over water and with no rush to get home, enjoy the last light of the day.
Your host family will prepare a tasty dinner for you reflecting their typical diet of rice and locally caught fish – it doesn’t get fresher than this! You will sleep in a nearby village in your private section of the home-stay.Early in the morning you will be greeted by your host family, enjoy a simple breakfast with them and have another chance to catch glimpses of early morning village life before setting off for another day’s adventure.
You will drive approximately 2 hours north through picturesque countryside to Koh Ker, the 10th Century Angkorian capital. These temples are scattered over a large area, the most impressive and photogenic of them being the pyramid-like Prasat Thom. Later you will continue to the mysterious and jungle-clad Beng Mealea temple and explore this sprawling complex on the way back to Siem Reap. You will have your lunch in a local restaurant.
Note: Home-stay restroom facilities are simple but clean with squat toilet and bucket shower. Bedding and mosquito net are provided.
